Diamonds have always been viewed as one of the most prized gemstones and they have been admired for centuries, with their glittering appeal showing no sign of waning. Diamond bearing rock is carried from the mantle to the Earth's surface by deep-origin volcanic eruptions. Most are also 1-3 billion years old and there’s a certain intrigue about a beautiful piece of nature that has defeated the odds and taken this long to become a perfect diamond. With that said not all Diamonds originated on Earth. Primitive interstellar meteorites were found to contain carbon in the form of Diamond. The name Diamond is derived from the ancient Greek name adamas or unbreakable. Diamonds are seen as being indestructible and act as unbreakable symbols, be this of strength or love. In the 15th century they were symbols of supreme strength worn by leaders and warriors to make them invincible. Above all else, diamonds are simply beautiful. Their sparkle, fire and brilliance are breath-taking to look at and they can’t fail to charm anyone who falls for their spell. Their magical twinkle has meant that they’ve been described as ‘fragments of stars’ and ‘tears of gods’. It is their beauty that has kept us enthralled for years and years, after all a diamond will be beautiful forever. They are also symbolic of everlasting love, and it was once said that their sparkle was really an indistinguishable flame of passion, hence why they are the most popular gemstone for engagement rings!
