The .50 carat, Natural Unheated Tanzanite has vivid saturation and excellent clarity with no visible inclusions and is a muted-golden-yellow color! Pictures have been magnified at 50x zoom to show details that may not be visible to the naked eye. Accenting the rare gemstone are 1.25mm round brilliant cut, natural Diamond accents (14 total) that are I color with VS2-SI1 clarity and weigh a combined total of 0.14 carats. Tanzanite is the blue and violet variety of the mineral zoisite. Tanzanite is only found in Tanzania, in a very small mining area near the Mererani Hills. Given the name “Tanzanite” by Tiffany & Co., the "blue-violet zoisite" was first introduced to the market in 1968. In 2002, the American Gem Trade Association chose tanzanite as a December birthstone, the first change to their birthstone list since 1912. Tanzanites are noted for their remarkably strong trichroism, appearing alternately sapphire blue, violet and burgundy depending on the crystal orientation. They also appear differently when viewed under alternate lighting conditions. Natural Tanzanite gemstones are a mix of gray, green, brown and blue color. The gem achieves its purple blue color through heat-treatment. Most of the Tanzanites we see in today's market are heated, so this unique natural untreated gemstone is an unbelievable find! The difference between heated and unheated Tanzanite is the removal of the yellow color due to heating. However, it is known in the mining industry that some Tanzanite gemstones have been naturally heated while inside the earth and may show no yellow color when extracted. While heat treatment of Tanzanite may result in a more favorable color, it does not enhance the grade or value of the gemstone. This natural and less-seen color of Tanzanite is guaranteed to wow and would be a perfect addition to the gemstone collector in your life.
