The Omega Speedmaster was introduced in 1957, initially created for automotive racecar driving. However, it would reach iconic status by eventually reaching spaceflight qualification when it was chosen for the Apollo missions without the need for tests. The model was worn by Neil Amstrong during his Apollo 11 mission and is known today as the 'original Moonwatch. The first of the Professional models, the present watch features the correct 'dot over ninety' bezel. The reference 105.012 was the first asymmetrical case to be released in the Speedmaster line throughout 1963-1966. With a creative and technical mind-set, the 105.012 introduced a new Huguenin Frères (HF) case with integrated crown guards, featuring the famed case maker’s signature twisted lugs and short wide chronograph pushers. It is powered by the highly admired calibre .321, which was recently re-released to excitement of many Speedy lovers.
